Appalachia KY
Read with your child. It's the most important 20 minutes of your day.
The Children's Reading Foundation of Appalachia-KY is dedicated to getting that message out to parents and other caregivers. Research shows that reading with children just 20 minutes a day helps them become better readers, and that better readers are more likely to stay in school and to succeed later in life.
Children's Reading Foundation of Appalachia-KY works hard to spread the reading foundation message through newspapers, radio, and other media and through special events and community partnerships.
Children's Reading Foundation of Appalchia-KY also promotes reading by collecting new and gently used children's books and distributing them to families who need them.

First Lady Jane Beshear promotes Reading
Each season, the First Lady releases a top 10 reading list for students with recommended books that fit a variety of age ranges. Mrs. Beshear encourages students to read for pleasure, as young people who enjoy reading and learning are more likely to be engaged and successful in the classroom. Mrs. Beshear also serves as a Scholastic Reading Ambassador – in this capacity she encourages students to read during the summer months and donates 500 Scholastic books every Spring to two elementary/middle schools in need of new books for their libraries.
