Doņa Ana County

           The Children's Reading Foundation of Doña Ana County is a community-driven,county-wide project that promotes the message, “Read with a child 20 minutes every day” and focuses on improving literacy throughout Doña Ana County. We thank the Institute for Community Engagement and McCune Foundation for assistance in establishing the Children's Reading Foundation of Doña Ana County chapter.

Celebrating Young Children

The Week of the Young Child was supported by Ms. Stewart’s early childhood class at Dona Ana Community College on Saturday, April 14. Children’s Reading Foundation was at the event “Celebrating the Young Child”. CRF Board members Rorie Measure, Jan Reed and Ann Rohovec talked with children and parents about reading and helped children select a book to take home with them. The continued generosity of Coas Books made it possible for CRF to give books to approximately 150 children.

Building Blocks Conference

The Junior League of Las Cruces sponsored a Building Blocks Conference for early childhood caregivers on March 31. Children’s Reading Foundation Board members Maria Flores, Rorie Measure and Ann Rohovec coordinated a presentation for the event. Building on personal reflection of attendees’ early childhood reading experiences, they pointed out the negative and sometimes devastating results of not having early reading experience and finally, offered tips on reading to children to build skills required in kindergarten.
