Eastern Oregon Programs
Book Harvest
The Book Harvest began as an idea in 2003. Since its inception, Eastern Oregon Reading Foundation has received and distributed over 5,548 books to children throughout Eastern Oregon. With the beginning of the new school year, the need for children to have their own books increases greatly. Even though donations of new and gently used books are accepted throughout the year the majority are collected by November 30th and distributed by the Winter holiday. Book Harvest books will be distributed to children through their schools, daycares, Eastern Oregon Children’s Multi-Treatment Center, WIC (Women, Infants & Children), Department of Human Services, Head Start, Even Start, Healthy Start and SMART (Start Making a Reader Today) Programs.
Books for Babies
Studies have shown that reading to your baby 20 minutes each day from birth to kindergarten will give your child over 600 hours of preliteracy experience. Books for Babies is a program that offers literacy information to new mothers along with a bib and a book for their newborn. The Reading Foundation donates Books for Babies packets to St. Anthony Hospital in Pendleton, Good Shepherd Hospital in Hermiston and the Morrow County Commission on Children and Families.
