Mini-Cassia Reading Foundation
The mission of The Mini-Cassia Reading Foundation, Inc. is to support the schools' goal that 90% of children will read at grade level by the end of third grade. The Foundation will promote, facilitate, encourage, and enhance the abilities and opportunities for parents/adults to read with a child for 20 minutes every day. The specific goals to achieve the mission:
Goal 1. To increase the awareness of parents of newborn babies to children in Grade 3 of the importance of reading to their children 20 minutes each day.
Goal 2. To conduct public and community programs that help to facilitate the mission of the Foundation regarding life long reading.
Target audiences include parents of children from newborn to third grade in school including parents from a wide variety of ethinic backgrounds and socioeconomic status.

The Mini-Cassia Reading Foundation is selling tickets for a quilt raffle. The quilt is a Sally, Dick, and Jane quilt that was made by one of the Board Members. Money from the sale of the tickets will be used to purchase books for children.Explorer Scouts "Gently used" book drive

Helen Almanza, the Administrative Assistant, contacted Boy Scout leaders in Burley and Pocatello, ID to explore the possiblitiy of boys working toward their Eagle Scout badges helping the Foundation locate "gently used" books that could be given out to children in the Mini-Cassia area. Three scouts volunteered for the project and collected 2,600 books. These books will be given to children who participate in the immunization clinics for the South Central Health Department and Family Health Centers in Rupert and Burley, ID.Baby Packs

Each parent of newborn infants born in the regional hospital receive a baby pack which includes information about reading to infants, a hard board book, pamphlets about raising infants, and a sippee cup.Special Education Preschool screening

A free book will be presented to every child attending the preKindergarten screening in the Minidoka County School District elementary schools, May 3 and 4. The Foundation expects to hand out 225 books.
