Ways to Donate
Books
Local Chapters are always grateful for new or gently used children's books. Having a book of their very own is an important part of becoming a reader. Your local Reading Foundation will place your gift in the hands of a child who will cherish it. There are two basic ways to donate: by giving money or giving books. Read more
Time
Once all those books are donated, they need to be individually inspected, perhaps cleaned and receive a "Read together 20 minutes every day" sticker. That's one way volunteers are needed. Do you like to read aloud to small groups of children? Would you enjoy distributing Read Aloud information and balloons at a community event? Are you willing to help one morning a week with projects in the office, such as preparing crafts for story times, addressing letters or recording data? How about designing event flyers or newsletters? There are service opportunities to match each person's special talents. Visit your local Chapter on this website to sign up. We love our volunteers!
Money
It's no secret that non-profits rely on the compassion and generosity of their community members. Please join us in this important work by providing financial support if you are able. Contributions of all amounts are appreciated and honored. Remember, we can buy a child a book for a dollar! Naturally, business partnerships and grants by large funders are essential to our sustainability. We are deeply grateful to our benefactors. Our pledge is to wisely manage financial resources to effectively reach the most children at the lowest cost.
Literacy Legacy is a donation made on behalf of a loved
one or honoree. For every 10 dollars contributed a personalized bookplate is placed in a new, hard back book. A note is sent to the honoree or family. In lieu of flowers for a funeral, this is an investment in the future.
