2016 Annual Report

9

Our team could not have asked for

a better program to support parents,

wrapped in one package together. I had

researched other programs but had

never found a single solution for all the

language, literacy, social, emotional,

math, and reasoning for parents. It’s a

dream come true. Our families report

their children are more confident and

eager to learn because of the interac-

tions they had at home.”

Sharon Rogers

Capital Area Community Services

Head Start (Michigan)

In just one year, the READY! for Kinder-

garten program helped increase math

skills of a group of nearly 30 of our

incoming kindergartners from 43.8

percent to 77.8 percent – a 34 percent

increase.”

Elizabeth Shepard

Co-Vice President

The Children’s Reading Foundation

 of Okanogan (Washington)

The children in our area struggle

with childhood literacy rates and low

achievement. Those issues are magni-

fied by high poverty and limited educa-

tional attainment of parents. Spreading

the message of reading together 20

minutes a day and the impact that has

on children and families met our need of

an effective and simple way to engage

families.”

Brenda Ward

Co-Executive Director

The Children’s Reading Foundation

of Appalachia (Virginia)

In 2013, prior to using the READY! for

Kindergarten program, kindergarten

readiness scores in Muhlenberg County

were 32.6 percent as measured by the

Brigance screener. By 2015, children

of parents who attended the READY!

program scored 52.5 percent.”
