U.S. Department of Education Awards $6.67 Million to Expand Programs
In 2012, and again in 2014, The Children’s Reading Foundation was awarded two-year federal grants by the U.S. Department of Education through the department’s Innovative Approaches to Literacy program. Using the grant funding, the foundation was able to expand its READY! for Kindergarten and READ Up program locations to enhance children’s literacy and school readiness, and to provide free children’s books and reading tools to communities served.
Children in high-need school districts in Illinois, Kentucky, New Mexico, Colorado, Oklahoma, Virginia and Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Maryland, Florida, Michigan, Kansas, Missouri, Tennessee, and Indiana, benefited from these additional programs.
